User Experience

Personas

Purpose

These personas capture three typical types of users forJumpUSA.com, an online sporting goods retailer. Each persona includes a scenario (also called a use case), which is a story that describes how the persona would complete a task or behave in a given situation.

Background

Personas are user archetypes, fictional individuals used to represent types of users. They humanize users and help create empathy for users.

Website Usability Report

Purpose

This project provides an evidence-based outline for what JumpUSA should consider when it updates its website. This report highlights the current website’s flaws and offers solutions and recommendations.

Background

JumpUSA.com sells a unique array of sports-specific training aids and exercise equipment. However, the site is hamstrung by a poor User Interface UI design. It does little to promote visitor confidence or perception of credibility.

Methods

Competitor analysis, personas and scenarios, interview structure and script, survey, card sorting, diary study structure, heuristic evaluation, and usability report.

Tools

Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, xSort and Screen Recorder.

Journey Map

Purpose

I created this journey map to represent every step a persona (or customer) takes when buying a mattress. The map includes his thoughts and emotions for each step in the process. Journey Maps help organizations empathize with their customers and provide them with direction, insight, and opportunities to improve customer experience. A well-constructed map can be a competitive advantage in customer experience.

Background

A customer journey map is a visual representation from the customer’s perspective of all his or her interactions with an organization, service, product or brand spanning time and across channels. It’s the visual narrative journey a persona takes to complete a task (e.g., buying a mattress).

Ideation Techniques

Purpose

This project demonstrates three common ideation techniques: worst possible idea, brain dump, and sketch-storm. I applied a different technique to a different problem for a different smartphone application.

Background

  • Brain Dump. In a brain dump, individuals write down every idea or solution to a problem on post-its, figuratively emptying his or her mind. It is comprehensively and uncritically recording all ideas/solutions that come to mind.
  • Worst Possible Idea. Worst possible idea is a method to spur creativity by flipping the dynamic in a fun way by having people propose the worst solutions they can think of for a given problem.
  • Sketch-storm. Making rough sketches of potential solutions is valuable because visuals have a tendency to spur further ideas and creative insight.
